New thing Appalachia needs to fight for

Was having a discussion about consolidations, new schools, etc. in the area.

One thing that Appalachia loves to say is that it will destroy their community if they lose their school.

I really think they need to look at something bigger than the school if they want to keep their community. Get onto people and get a road out of Appalachia directly to US-23. How many communities tend to thrive that don't have major road access? Right now, to get to 23, those people from Appalachia have to go right through that town where everybody thinks their better than them, or go to Norton (those boys aren't so bad they just can't win a state championship like us dawgs *lol*).

In all seriousness, that would a)benefit them to potentially get new business there, b) help them if there was a new school built for quicker access to it (would make the idea of a school between Appy and BSG more possible, with still getting the benefits of better/quick access)

Instead of climbing on the 'hey people' bandwagon, they should recommend something that will help them long-term, not just for a few years until either the state makes the decision for them or the rest of the county goes enough.

They fight because AHS is pretty much the only thing left. What else actually brings people to Appy from out of town or gets them a positive mention in another area? I lived in Appy from age 12 until I got married and now work and family takes me there often. I think it's depressing driving through there.

What's more important, a better education for the kids or a 75 year old, run-down high school?

I know they do not have a lot of students but their school looks better than JJ Kelly's High School. Coeburn and Pound probably have the nicest high Schools.

If it is THE only positive thing for Appy, and you lived there, why didn't you attend Appy?

They NEED to consolidate. But the problem is, when you have all of these people protesting 90% of them are fighting to keep the blue and gold on the football field and less than 10% are fighting to keep the smaller class sizes.

I agree with the above post, high school football is fine, but getting a good education is alot more important in the long run. What I would have liked to see them do is ask everyone of the protesters 2 questions. 1. name 8 teams appy plays in football this year. take all of the ballets up. then ask them 2. name the classes (and one thing your child learned in each class this past semester--keep ppl from saying just English or Math).

I didn't get to decide where to live at age 12! My parents' neighborhood isn't all that bad. It was a good move based on housing and cost at the time for them. I had attended PV since K so they let me finish there.

You have former alumni fighting for this... they just do not want to lose their school... understandable.... but at the same time it is and must happen for the benefit of the students.
